Are you at risk for prostate cancer?

Traditionally, men are screened for prostate cancer with a blood serum test called Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA), and a Digital Rectal Exam (DRE) performed during a routine doctor’s physical. If either screening shows an abnormality, you may be at risk for prostate cancer. That’s why it’s important to find it early!

If you have two or more of the following risk factors, you may benefit from screening with multiparametric prostate MRI (mpMRI):

  • Elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA)
  • Family history of prostate cancer
  • African American
  • Over age 65
  • Overweight
  • Enlarged prostate
  • Abnormal digital examination

What can I do?

  • Know your family history. For some men, genetic factors put them at a higher risk for prostate cancer.

  • Eat a healthy diet. Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables every day.

  • Maintain a healthy weight. A body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher increases your risk.

  • Exercise regularly. Aim for at least 30 minutes most days of the week.

  • Reduce stress. Find ways to reduce or eliminate stress from your work and personal life.
