Exercise for Prostate Health

Exercise and daily physical activity are essential to maintaining prostate health and are even beneficial if you have prostate cancer.

Physical activity can help you maintain a healthy weight, as well as maintain muscle mass and bone strength. It can also help you better cope with the side effects of prostate cancer treatment.

Your exercise regimen does not need to be strenuous. Moderate physical activities can include:

  • Brisk walking
  • Bicycling
  • Yard work
  • Golfing
  • Dancing
  • Tennis
  • Jogging
  • Swimming

A recent study showed that men who exercise have better prostate cancer survival rates than those who don’t. In the study, men who walked or biked daily for at least 20 minutes had a 39% decreased risk of dying from prostate cancer and a 30% decreased risk of dying from any cause. The study applied to men with localized prostate cancer that had not metastasized.
